Nobel in Physiology or Medicine
Two Australians, Robin Warren and Barry Marshall are the recipients of this year's Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. The two did their work on stomach ulcers, and proved that this disease was caused by bacteria. In fact, in order to prove that the bacteria was in fact causing the ulcers, Berry Marshall drank a culture of bacteria. A few days later he was vomiting and having stomach pains. Leave it to Australians to do science the good old fashioned way.
